Abuse Me More...I Like it?

Judging by the title you would think I was some kind of crazy person.  We all have angry days and upset days.  Some people call it sticking it to the man.  This is one of those songs for me.

Silverchair provided this kind of song for me.  Their first album had the unforgettable track "Tomorrow" and their second album was pretty good as well and provided a very music song in Ana's Fire.  That song was about the lead singers personal battle with anorexia.  With those struggles the band struggled and slowly put out a third album which wasnt as good but there were a few songs of note.

Since then the band fell off the face of the earth until a few years ago when they release another album which didnt catch on much here in the states.

Needless to say the band is very good and has some great stuff in their first two albums especially.

Not Just a Candy

Lemonheads are a fantastic little yellow balls of candy.  But the goodness of Lemonheads extends into music.  Yes that's right.  They took the song Mrs. Robinson and transformed it into a 90s rock band song.  They did fairly well with it and their first record but sort of faded a little bit.

I really like their album Car Button Cloth.  It is full of good songs.  One of my favorite was their first single from that album.  It has a crazy weird and random video in my opinion but you might think it funny.

Over Your Shoulder

Have you ever had the feeling that someone is watching you?  Do you hate it when people do things over your shoulder?  Many people do.  I know I do.  But Seven Mary Three doesnt mind because they had a hit with this.  It wasnt too popluar.  They are most known for Cumbersome and Water's Edge.  Those songs are a little harder with a more edgey feel.

Over Your Shoulder is from their third album and the band slowly faded out.  Believe it or not they are still going and releasing records and touring but more on a local level.

Heavenly Airwaves

Many people were very sad, as was I, when Blink-182 decided to go seperate ways.  Tom DeLong just never gave up his efforts in creating music and worked with a lot of bands including Racecare, +44 and a few others.  He had lots of little side projects.  All with a very smiliar sound to Blink-182 but none as good as his last "project" band.

Angels and Airwaves is the latest project band for Tom DeLong and they are fantastic.  They are just about to release their third album.  Their second disc I-Empire is now in my top 10 lists of best albums ever and most listen to.  I never get tired of it.

From their second album this is one of my favorite songs.

Disturbed Shouting?

I have written a lot about remakes and as I think about it there are more and more songs that I find are remade that are good.  Here is a case in point.  Here is one "metal" band that does a lot of shouting with a killer song. The band has released 5 albums of which 4 albums have debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts.  The band was originally called Brawl it wasnt till they were "stupify"-ed on their second album that go us down with "The Sickness" were they called Disturbed.

One of the band members actually did the opposite in the file sharing controversy.  He fought against the RIAA  to stop them from going after kids and to adopt a better policy with internet usage.

Well after their 5th album they announced this year that they wont be touring in 2012 and will be on an indifinate hiatus.  Sorry Disturbed fans but no you will have to "Shout" thanks to the Tears for Fears original!

What Do They Have in Common

Here is a trick question for you.  What do California, platinum, gold, green, and purple all have in common?   The answer is one album 8x platinum, 40 million records sold, two Grammy awards and the title of an album "Purple".  The other is the daily view of one Scott Weiland who cant ever seem to lay off the drugs.  He is like Charlie Sheen of the music world.

Stone Temple Pilots album Core was 8x platinum and they scored big with songs like "Plush" which won them a Grammy award for best Hard Rock Performance.  They are ranked #40 on VH1s greatest 100 rock bands.  Yes they are a California band (San Diego).  Their second album was called "Purple" and had a few hits.  All in all they were a commercial success.

Believe it or not though that success was met with critics tough reviews who called them "imitators" and "second rate" in comparison to Nirvana and Pearl Jam.  Well fortunately I will let you be the judge and let you know that I dont think they are second rate or imitators.  They are great.

Here is one of my favorite songs from them from Purple it is:

iTunes Radio Station

I might be a little behind the times but I havent really been interested in some of the "radio stations" that you can play off iTunes.  I was out of musical options one day and I decided to try it out.  Under Alternative Rock the second one down the list was Ace Radio - 90s Alternative.  I tried it out and I love it!

This station is a combination of all the rock songs that I love from the 90s it is like listening to my old cds again! It is awesome!  I definately recommend it.

It does have a website as well www.aceradio.net I havent been to it yet so I cant speak to content but listening on iTunes is great!
